Petar Palavršić, Slavko Dabinović: Captain Ivo Visin's Voyage Arround the World
The book by Petra Palavršić and Slavko Dabinović tells the story of the events of this sailor and explorer born in Prčanj in 1806, who, as the first Slovenian, managed to circumnavigate the world. Captain Ivo Visin and Lieutenant Fridrih Belavita, along with nine crew members, set sail on February 11, 1852, aboard the brig Splendido, under the Habsburg flag, from Antwerp on a journey around the world. They sailed westward, carrying cargo along the route: Antwerp – Cape Horn – Valparaiso - San Francisco – Honolulu – Singapore – Bangkok – Hong Kong – Cape of Good Hope – Plymouth – Trieste. They arrived in Trieste on August 30, 1859. Emperor Franz Joseph I honored Captain Visin with a white honorary flag and the knight's cross of the Order of Franz Joseph. Captain Ivo Visin passed away in 1868, nine years after his magnificent journey. The book is enriched with new archival data that was previously unknown to the wider readership. The text is illustrated with images of 19th-century ports, maritime maps, plans, and views of cities from 1852 to 1859.
